Nandigram Bypoll: Congress Candidate Arrested After Mamata's Support
In Nandigram, West Bengal, Congress candidate Milan Pradhan was arrested hours after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced support for the Congress in the by-election. Pradhan's arrest is reportedly linked to an old murder case. The arrest occurred shortly after Sanchita Pradhan Dey, the Trinamool Congress-backed candidate for the Nandigram seat, withdrew her nomination. Banerjee subsequently declared support for the Congress candidate. Both the West Bengal Congress and the Trinamool Congress criticized the BJP following Pradhan's arrest and demanded his release.
