Petrol Pump Dealers to Stop UPI Payments for Transactions Over Rs 2000
Petrol pump dealers across India have announced they will not accept UPI or card payments for transactions exceeding ₹2,000, starting October 16. This decision, affecting approximately 4,700 pumps in Madhya Pradesh alone, is a protest against the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) imposed on such transactions. Dealers claim the MDR and GST add an additional ₹17,400 per month to each pump's expenses. They are demanding the continuation of a zero-MDR system for these payments and have sought the government's intervention to withdraw the decision.
