EU Proposes Age Verification for Social Media Use by Children
The European Commission has proposed new regulations for social media use by children. The proposal aims to ban children under 13 from using social media platforms. For children aged 13 to 15, access would be permitted through accounts supervised by their parents. The Commission plans to utilize a free, open-source age verification app developed by Brussels to enforce these age thresholds. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that online platforms can easily rely on this age verification app.
