Mamata Banerjee Challenges Election Commission Order in Supreme Court
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has approached the Supreme Court to challenge a decision by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The ECI's order reportedly froze the Trinamool Congress party's name and election symbol. This legal challenge follows the withdrawal of nomination by Mamata Banerjee's party candidate, Sanchita Pradhan Dey, from the Nandigram by-election. Following this, Banerjee expressed support for the Congress candidate in the Nandigram by-election. One report also noted that the candidate Banerjee supported was arrested.
