ECI Reallocates TMC Election Symbol Amidst Internal Dispute
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has reallocated the Trinamool Congress (TMC) election symbol, the 'Jora Ghasful' (Two Flowers), to the faction led by Mamata Banerjee. The ECI's order on March 11, 2024, stated that the faction led by Mamata Banerjee would retain the name Trinamool Congress and the symbol. This decision followed a dispute within the party regarding its leadership and symbol. The ECI noted that the legislative party and the organizational wing were in favour of the faction led by Mamata Banerjee. The rival faction, led by Mukul Roy, had also claimed the symbol. Mamata Banerjee called the ECI's decision a 'Black Day' for democracy.
