US President Trump Renews $100,000 H-1B Visa Fee, Tightens Scrutiny
U.S. President Donald Trump has renewed a $100,000 fee on H-1B visas for another year, continuing a policy aimed at restricting foreign hiring. The administration also flagged H-1B visa abuse and put employers on notice regarding layoffs of U.S. workers. Trump has criticized the H-1B program and sought to permanently increase the fee, citing economic and national security concerns. According to one report, the fee, implemented in 2025, led to a 92% drop in H-1B registrations for large IT outsourcing companies.
