Karnataka FDA Busts Fake Medicine Racket, Seizes ₹5 Crore Stock
Karnataka's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has busted a counterfeit medicine racket in Bengaluru, leading to the cancellation of 16 drug licenses and suspension of eight. The operation involved raiding an illegal facility in Bidadi where drugs were being repackaged. Authorities seized counterfeit medicines, packaging machinery, and printing materials valued at ₹5.05 crore. The FDA warned of public health risks and urged consumers to purchase medicines only from licensed pharmacies. One report noted that the racket involved repackaging cheaper domestic drugs as expensive foreign brands.
