Supreme Court Mandates Written Grounds for Arrest, Even in UAPA Cases
The Supreme Court has ruled that providing written grounds of arrest is mandatory, even in cases involving the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The court stated that informing the arrested person of the grounds of arrest is 'sacrosanct'. The ruling also stipulates that police officers who fail to provide written grounds of arrest must face departmental inquiry.
