Fed's Goolsbee Rejects Idea of Rate Cuts for Debt Financing
Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller rejected the notion that the Fed would cut interest rates to assist the U.S. in financing its debt. He stated that the path to achieving the Fed's 2% inflation target is unlikely to be painless. Separately, Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee also dismissed the idea of the Fed lowering rates to help the U.S. government manage its debt.
