Election Commission Denies Internal Disagreements Over SIR Software
Reports emerged of disagreements within the Election Commission of India (ECI) concerning the new SIR software, which allegedly removed the authority of ground-level officials to make changes to voter lists. Congress claimed that officials like Gyanesh Kumar were acting arbitrarily and raised questions about the SIR. However, ECI sources stated that while questions and clarifications arose during discussions on SIR, no commissioner formally registered dissent against the final decision. The ECI also asserted that orders related to SIR were signed by all three members, and its three-member structure resolves disagreements through majority. The commission issued a clarification stating all decisions were made by consensus.
