Sugar Mills Deny Profiteering, Cite Low Sales at Peak Price
The Indian sugar industry has rejected claims of profiteering, stating that mills sold less than 2.5% of their annual demand at the August peak price. According to reports, mills sold only 7 lakh tonnes of sugar at ₹50/kg in August, while the average price for the 2025-26 season was ₹41/kg.
