Former Canadiens Owner George Gillett Jr. Dies at 87
George Gillett Jr., aged 87, the former owner of the Montreal Canadiens and former Liverpool football club owner, died after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He had purchased the Bell Centre (then called the Molson Centre) and a majority stake in the Canadiens for $275 million on 31 January 2001.
