Eight US Navy Sailors Attempted Suicide During Extended Deployment
Eight US Navy sailors assigned to the USS Abraham Lincoln strike group attempted suicide during the vessel's 10-month deployment. The aircraft carrier, with a crew of about 5,000 to 7,000 sailors, spent more than 250 to 300 consecutive days at sea without port visits, setting a modern Navy record during combat operations in the Middle East. The deployment began in November 2025 for duty in the South China Sea. The Navy confirmed the suicide attempts, with one report citing a letter from the acting Navy secretary.
