Bangladesh Halts Hilsa Trade with India Ahead of Durga Puja
Bangladesh has halted the export and import of Hilsa fish with India in the lead-up to Durga Puja, breaking a festive-season tradition. The Department of Fisheries in Bangladesh cancelled 103 no-objection certificates (NOCs) for Hilsa trade, as notified on September 22. This action means Bengal's Durga Puja celebrations may not feature the fish, which has been a cherished culinary component of the festival, despite occasional interruptions in past years.
