Global food prices reach near four-year high in September
Global food prices have risen to their highest level in nearly four years, according to the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The FAO Food Price Index averaged 136.0 points in September, an increase from a revised 134.0 in August. This surge is attributed to disruptions in trade, particularly concerning the Black Sea, and adverse weather conditions, including fears related to El Niño. Marked increases were noted in the costs of cereals, sugar, and vegetable oils.
