IAF Chief Flags Fighter Jet Delays, Calls for Faster Deliveries

Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh stated that delays in fighter jet deliveries are "going to hurt us" and are impacting the Indian Air Force's (IAF) strength, which has fallen to 29 squadrons. He emphasized the need for the IAF to induct 36-40 fighter jets annually to prevent a decline in squadron strength. The Air Chief also expressed concern over Pakistan's J-35 fighter jet and the cooperation between Pakistan and China. He urged for acceleration of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program or exploration of alternative options to address a fifth-generation fighter gap. Discussions are underway for a potential deal for 114 Rafale jets, which may be finalized within the current financial year, alongside the Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MRFA) deal.
