Flydubai Co-pilot Accused of Cockpit Attack, Investigation Underway
A flydubai co-pilot is under scrutiny following an alleged attack in the cockpit of a flight bound for Israel. Reports indicate the co-pilot, Smit Machchhar, reportedly got up to pray before the incident. The United Arab Emirates has stated the co-pilot attempted a "terrorist attack" and used the aircraft's "crash axe." Australian security agencies are investigating the co-pilot's time in Australia prior to the alleged attack. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Captain Machchhar, calling him a "hero" and inviting him to participate in Israel's Independence Day celebrations. Actor Shah Rukh Khan also praised Captain Machchhar's "courage and duty." The co-pilot was reportedly barred from flying in his native Oman over security concerns.
