GST arrest powers may be removed; data access for agencies to be discussed
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council is scheduled to discuss the removal of arrest powers under the GST regime on October 7, potentially addressing concerns about overreach by tax authorities. The government may introduce an amendment during the Winter Session of Parliament. Separately, the GST Council is also expected to consider allowing investigating agencies and police to access GST data through the NATGRID platform.
