UIDAI Revises Aadhaar Name Update Rules, Tightens Process
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has revised the rules for updating names on Aadhaar cards, introducing new procedures for various types of changes. These include minor corrections, data-entry errors, changes due to marriage or divorce, and complete name changes. The updated Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) mandates specific documents for each type of request. For complete name changes, a Gazette Notification is now required, while certain other corrections can be made with different documentation.
