Maharashtra Govt Defends Security Act Citing 'Urban Maoist' Network

The Maharashtra government has defended its Special Public Security Act, stating that the state has become a hub for 'urban Maoist' activities. The government cited 64 Maoist front organizations to support its defense of the law in the High Court. The Act outlines four offenses for which an individual can be punished: membership in an unlawful organization, raising funds for such an organization as a non-member, assisting in its management, or committing an unlawful activity.
