France Student Protests Over Education Funding Turn Violent

Thousands of students across France have been protesting for better-funded education, leading to demonstrations that turned violent in Paris. Riot police used tear gas and stun grenades against the demonstrators. In one incident, a 15-year-old student lost a hand when a stun grenade, allegedly fired by police with disproportionate force, exploded. The French government has since suspended the use of stun grenades against protesting high school students and launched 18 internal probes into the incidents. The protests, which have involved school blockades and thousands of arrests, are also tapping into wider public discontent over issues including mass migration and crumbling school conditions.
