Caste row erupts over burial in Tamil Nadu village

A caste dispute arose in a village in Erode, Tamil Nadu, on October 5, concerning the burial of a 90-year-old man from the Scheduled Caste (SC) community. When members of the SC community attempted to use a common burial ground, residents from a dominant caste opposed the burial. The SC community members were reportedly threatened and told not to seek future employment from the dominant caste. In a gesture of appeasement or deference, two men from the SC community fell at the feet of the dominant-caste villagers.
