GST Council Overhauls Enforcement, Changes Tax Treatment
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council has decided to remove arrest powers for tax officers and raise the prosecution threshold to Rs 5 crore. Additionally, the council has endorsed a uniform tax treatment for operators, proposing a 5% GST option for electric vehicle (EV) passenger transport and rentals, regardless of their business model. This change applies to services like Ola, Uber, Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon, and Flipkart.
