US Green Card Program Suspends Applications for IT Firms

The United States has suspended applications for the Green Card program for several major IT companies, including Microsoft, Infosys, TCS, and Wipro. This action, announced by Senator JD Vance, affects the ability of high-skilled workers employed through the H-1B visa program to apply for US residency. The Ministry of External Affairs clarified that the suspension of PERM applications does not impact the validity of existing H-1B visas or the status of current H-1B visa holders and their dependents. The situation has prompted GTech, an IT industry body, to seek intervention from the Indian central government.
