Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas alleges police assault during Delhi protest
During a protest in Delhi on October 11 demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas of the CPI(M) said he was assaulted by Delhi Police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel. Brittas alleged that officers pinned him to a seat, tried to choke him, and later manhandled him inside a police vehicle before dumping him by the roadside. He was taken to RML Hospital for treatment and subsequently wrote to President Droupadi Murmu accusing the police of brutality. A video shared by the CPI(M) shows Brittas lying on the steps of a bus, panting and being assisted by another person. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah publicly condemned the alleged assault.
