Former Judge Criticizes Government's Role in Judicial Appointments

Former Madras High Court judge K Chandru has criticized the current government's control over judicial appointments, stating that Prime Minister Modi, not the collegium system, is effectively appointing Supreme Court and High Court judges. Chandru highlighted a lack of transparency in the process and noted that the National Judicial Appointments Commission, previously struck down by the Supreme Court, has not been revived. Justice S Muralidhar also commented on the scarcity of women judges being elevated to the Supreme Court.
