J&K Waqf Board Reverses Decision on Uniform Friday Sermons Amid Opposition
The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board has taken a U-turn on its proposal to pre-decide topics for Friday sermons. Chairperson Darakshan Andrabi stated that preachers, not politicians, would determine sermon subjects. This reversal came two days after the initial proposal for a committee to decide sermon topics, which had drawn criticism from the opposition who labeled it as interference in religious affairs. Sajad Lone also opposed the move, stating that the "pulpit belongs to faith."
