Election Commission Clarifies Voter List Draft Process Amid Controversy
The Election Commission of India has clarified the process for its 'Systematic Voter's Education and Electoral Roll Purification' (SIR) draft, stating that names not appearing in the draft do not necessarily mean they have been removed from the final voter list. This clarification comes amid claims that over 13 crore names were removed. The Election Commission has issued instructions to 55 collectors regarding voter lists, with over 4 lakh applications received in Madhya Pradesh alone. The Bombay High Court was informed by the Election Commission that the absence of a name in the SIR draft does not equate to its removal from the electoral roll.
