CJI's remarks on election commission draw political fire
Chief Justice of India (CJI) Suryakant faced criticism after making remarks that were interpreted by some as questioning the Election Commission's authority. Abhijit Dipke attacked CJI Suryakant's statements, demanding to know why no action was being taken against the Election Commission. In response to being cornered over demands for CJI Suryakant's resignation, the Congress party took a U-turn, stating they have full faith in the judiciary and distanced themselves from the post. Amidst large protests in Delhi, CJI Suryakant stated, "This is not my issue, I will not speak." The opposition's stance on the Election Commission's authority was questioned, with one report asking if the opposition had accepted the Election Commission's rights.
