New York City to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages After Tourist's Death

New York City has agreed to ban horse-drawn carriages, a decision that follows the death of 18-year-old Indian tourist Romanch Mahajan. Mahajan died on June 17 from injuries sustained in an accident in Central Park where he fell from a carriage while attempting to help his mother, who had fallen first. The ban is set to take effect on June 1, 2028. City Council Speaker Julie Menin and official Zohran Mamdani have reached an agreement on the ban, which will make operating these carriages illegal in the city.
