India Faces Power Shortages Amidst Record Demand

India is experiencing a significant increase in power demand, reaching 21,000 MW, a 30% rise compared to 16,000 MW last year. This surge is attributed to the El Niño effect causing higher temperatures. To meet this demand and avoid unscheduled power cuts, the government plans to purchase high-cost electricity for 16 days through a short-term tender, according to Minister R. Nirmal Kumar.
