India Proposes Stricter BS-VII Emission Norms from 2029

The Indian government has proposed new Bharat Stage (BS)-VII emission standards, slated to be implemented in three phases starting April 2029. These proposed norms will extend beyond engine emissions to include regulations for brake and tyre wear, and battery durability. Passenger cars may also require a "vehicle passport." India currently adheres to BS-VI standards, which were introduced nationwide in April 2020, significantly tightening vehicle emission requirements.
