Novaya Gazeta Editor Detained in Russia
Sergei Sokolov, editor-in-chief of Russia's independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta, was detained and taken for questioning on Thursday after authorities searched his home, according to the newspaper. The FSB also arrested a Swedish citizen in the Pskov region on terrorism charges and Japanese journalist Yuki Imai on Sakhalin on espionage charges. These detentions occurred days after former president Medvedev wrote that Russia might need to "fill up the exchange pool with European and American idiots" to recover Russians abroad.
