Kolkata Durga Pandal Stampede Leaves 17 Dead, Inquiry Ordered
A stampede at a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata killed 17 people and injured more than 25. The Calcutta High Court directed the West Bengal government to appoint a retired judge to head an inquiry into the incident. The government announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh and a government job for the victims' families.
