First Human Shamonda Virus Case Confirmed in France; Patient Dies
France has confirmed the first-ever human case of the Shamonda virus, a livestock virus, in a man in his 60s who later died. The patient was severely immunocompromised when he fell ill in early October. French health authorities described the infection as an "exceptional case" involving a severely immunocompromised patient and stated there is no current health risk. The World Health Organization has deemed it an isolated case. Investigations are underway to determine if the virus contributed to the man's death.
