UK PM Open to Slavery Apology, Rules Out Reparations

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has stated he is "open" to offering a formal apology for Britain's role in the slave trade, but has ruled out paying reparations. Burnham argued that "we need to face up to the past." Separately, Shashi Tharoor commented that the omission of colonialism from discussions regarding apologies for historical injustices was "inexplicable." Kemi Badenoch, a UK minister, suggested that the Prime Minister risks putting pressure on the King by discussing a slavery apology.
