Indian High Courts Rule on Wife's Maintenance Claims
Several Indian High Courts have issued rulings concerning a wife's eligibility for maintenance from her husband. The Karnataka High Court stated that a wife earning more than her husband is not automatically entitled to maintenance, emphasizing financial capacity over gender. Conversely, the Allahabad High Court ruled that a wife's allotment of a government house does not disqualify her from claiming maintenance, as shelter is not a source of income. Other rulings clarified that parental support during distress does not absolve a husband of his maintenance obligation.
