West Bengal Assembly revises OBC reservation list, removes Muslim communities

The West Bengal Assembly has passed two bills to amend the state's Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation framework. These amendments remove 77 Muslim communities from the previously revised OBC list, which had been established by the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government. The new legislation revises the list to recognize 66 communities, comprising 54 Hindu and 12 Muslim groups, outside the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes categories.
