Consumer Commission Rules Against Arbitrary Rounding Off and Service Charges
Consumer commissions in India have ruled against restaurants and shops levying unauthorized service charges and arbitrarily rounding off bills. In one case, a lawyer was awarded ₹15,000 after a restaurant charged a service charge without consent. In another, a Jaipur shop was fined ₹10,000 for unfairly rounding up a bill by 50 paise, with the commission deeming it a deficiency in service and unfair trade practice.
