New Criminal Laws See Increased Case Registration and Faster Investigations
India's new criminal laws, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), have been in effect for two years. During this period, a significant number of cases have been registered under the BNS, with over 7.4 million cases recorded. The BNSS has reportedly led to a 25% quicker investigation rate by police and a notable increase in 'Zero FIRs', including a substantial number of interstate cases.
