Amarnath Yatra Begins Amid Tight Security and Route Restrictions

The 57-day Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage commenced with the first batch of pilgrims departing from Jammu. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the convoy from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp. Route restrictions were announced for Jammu starting July 2. Security arrangements, including multi-layered measures and a 'threat matrix recalibration', were reviewed by officials including the Inspector General of Police in Kashmir and a Divisional Commissioner. The NHAI also trialed a tunnel for a dry-run convoy.
