India Summons Meta Over Child Abuse Ads; AP Sets Up Social Media Abuse Cell
India's IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has ordered officials to summon Meta after reports surfaced of Instagram advertisements promoting child sexual abuse material. In Andhra Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan announced the establishment of a dedicated complaint cell within his office to address social media abuse. This cell will act under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act to penalize online abusers. The move follows an incident where a YouTuber's wife alleged abuse during his arrest, and actor Prakash Raj criticized the police action, which was reportedly triggered by remarks made by the YouTuber.
