Explosions near French President Macron's hotel in Damascus during Syria visit

French President Emmanuel Macron visited Syria, with explosions reported near the hotel where he was staying in Damascus. The Syrian presidency announced Macron's visit, which was to be the first by a Western head of state since the 2024 ousting of Bashar al-Assad. Reports indicate that 18 people, including police officers, were injured in the blasts. The Elysee stated that the explosions were not audible from Macron's motorcade, and he continued his visit.
