Consumer court orders railways to pay compensation for denied seats
A consumer court has ordered Indian Railways to pay compensation to passengers who were denied seats despite having confirmed tickets. In one instance, a passenger had to spend the night standing. The Southern Railway was ordered to pay Rs 60,000, while another court imposed a Rs 50,000 penalty on the railways for a similar incident where a passenger had to stand all night. These decisions followed complaints regarding passengers not getting their reserved seats.
