Wayanad landslide: Ministers blame unscientific dumping, probe ordered
Kerala ministers have stated that the Wayanad landslide was a man-made disaster caused by the unscientific dumping of excavated earth. The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has ordered a probe into the incident, directing the District Collector and the Public Works Department's Superintending Engineer to submit a comprehensive report within 15 days. Three lives were lost in the tragedy, with five people still missing. Ministers have directed officials to enhance relief and disaster management measures. Environmental groups have also held the Kerala government accountable, seeking a suspension of further tunnel works and alleging the project was approved with inadequate scientific evaluation.
