French regulator orders Meta to negotiate news copyright payments

France's competition authority has ordered Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, to negotiate with news publishers over the use of their content. The regulator found that Meta had failed to comply with a previous order to negotiate in good faith regarding copyright payments for news articles. This decision stems from a 2019 EU directive on copyright, which aims to ensure news publishers are compensated when their content is used by online platforms.
