Tree felling halted for projects amid environmental concerns
A proposal to divert 750 hectares of forest land for coal mining in Odisha has been cleared by a panel. Separately, Uttarakhand halted the felling of approximately 3,000 trees for a Dehradun-Rishikesh highway expansion project following protests. Concerns have also been raised over a proposal to fell 332,000 trees for coal mining in Odisha. In another instance, nearly 400,000 trees are reportedly impacted by approvals for coal projects.
