India Clarifies No Plans to Scrap Long-Term Capital Gains Tax on Equities

The Indian government has clarified that there are no proposals under consideration to abolish the long-term capital gains (LTCG) tax on equity transactions for domestic investors. This statement was made to Parliament, quashing market speculation. The Finance Ministry indicated that tax policies are subject to periodic revision during the annual budgetary process. In the fiscal year 2025, the government collected Rs 1.29 lakh crore from this levy.
