Supreme Court Reduces Gang Rape Convict's Life Sentence to 20 Years

The Supreme Court of India has reduced the life sentence of a gang rape convict from life imprisonment to 20 years. The court cited the convict's age at the time of the offense, stating he was only 25 years old and that reformation was possible. The court also noted that patriarchy continues to fuel sexual violence. The original conviction was for a 2016 gang rape case.
