Assam floods cause widespread devastation, affecting over 7 lakh people
Assam is experiencing severe floods, with reports indicating a death toll ranging from 31 to 61 and affecting over 5.6 lakh to 11 lakh people across multiple districts. The floods have submerged areas including the tea belt, leading to a humanitarian crisis. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attributed the devastation to over 400% excess rainfall. Prime Minister Narendra Modi contacted the Chief Minister to inquire about relief efforts and offered central government support. Compensation of ₹4 lakh has been announced for affected families.
